Rochester City Council Passes Budget

The results are in from the Rochester City Council vote on its budget from Tuesday night and it has been approved.
There was one member who voted against – Mary Lupien. She chose her stance because she doesn’t think that the budget defunds the police department enough.
The budget fully finances the Police Accountability Board, cuts the incoming Rochester police class by half, and sets aside money from special events to the recreation department.
Lupien says the city needs to cut more officers from the RPD. She commented on her position, saying:
“To me the cuts didn’t represent the clear commitment that the community is looking for. If the goal is to reallocate or divert non-violent calls from the police department, that means that we need less police and a three percent cut isn’t going to do that.”
