The Rochester City School District celebrated the grand opening of Padilla High School at the Franklin Educational Campus on October 17, 2024. The school was renamed as part of the district’s reconfiguration plan, honoring the Padilla family, one of the earliest migrant families to settle in Rochester. The Padilla family has made significant contributions to the community, including leadership in bilingual programming and other community initiatives.
Nydia Padilla-Rodriguez highlighted her family’s achievements, including her sister Nancy Padilla, the first Latina to run for school board commissioner, City Council, and mayor. The ribbon-cutting event also featured U.S. Army JROTC cadets leading the Pledge of Allegiance. This renaming is part of a broader initiative to recognize local pioneers in the Rochester education system.
