Rochester Airport Logs Busiest Summer in 15+ Years

Written by on October 4, 2025

Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport recorded its most active summer in over a decade, with 371,775 outbound passengers and 742,924 total travelers June–August. August alone topped 130,000 emplanements—the strongest summer month since the 1990s—and approached 2007’s benchmark of 391,623 boardings. Monroe County Executive Adam Bello credited terminal upgrades and expanded air service, noting this year’s nonstop additions to Raleigh/Durham, Nashville, Wilmington, Lakeland, and Charleston. More Florida routes—to Fort Myers and Sarasota—are slated for 2026. The surge reflects pent-up leisure demand, improved connectivity, and ROC’s push to recruit carriers and destinations. Sustaining momentum will depend on airline capacity decisions, competitive fares, and business travel recovery, but the data signal ROC’s growing role as an Upstate hub heading into next year.
