RIT Researchers Involved in Launch of Webb Telescope

On Christmas morning, the James Webb Space Telescope was launched from Europe’s spaceport in French Guiana. The James Webb Space Telescope was a $10 billion project that will become the world’s most powerful space observatory to further explore the origins of the universe. Making history along with the project are RIT researchers. They are among the first groups chosen to analyze data in the initial stages of the telescopes’ time in space.

Jeyhan Kartaltepe, associate professor and astrophysicist at RIT, stated: “The moment we found out we were one of the accepted programs was shocking. I can remember the exact moments and just receiving an email from my collaborator saying, ‘Oh my god. We got it.
