Retail chains planning to close the most locations in 2020

I’m just gonna say it… we should be supporting local businesses. It keeps the money in the community and out of the hands of billionaires. And here in Rochester we have some of the best small local businesses!! But that’s a different blog post.

Here’s a list of some of the retail chains that are closing the most locations in 2020; in descending order with GNC closing up to 1,200 locations and Macy’s closing 125 mall locations:

  • GNC ( General Nutrition Center)
  • Pier 1 Imports
  • Gordmans, regional brands like Bealls, Goody’s and Peebles
  • Men’s Wearhouse/Jos. A. Bank
  • New York & Co.
  • GameStop
  • Signet Jewelers, which include: Key Jewelers, Zales, Jared the Galleria of Jewelry, Piercing Pagoda, JB Robinson Jewelers and other brands
  • Bed Bath & Beyond
  • AT&T, who also owns Cricket Wireless
  • Victoria’s Secret
  • Chico’s
  • Tuesday Morning
  • Gap
  • J.C. Penny
  • The Children’s Place
  • Art Van Furniture
  • Walgreens
  • Destination Maternity, which includes Motherhood Mternity and A Pea in the Pod
  • Papyrus, from Schurman Retail Group
  • Forever 21, but now apparently under new ownership that might be turning away from fast fashion
  • Modell’s Sporting Goods
  • A.C. Moore
  • Macy’s
