Legendary comedian Paul Mooney died Wednesday after suffering a heart attack at his home in Oakland, California. The 79-year comedic writer is best known for his work with Richard Prior, whom he wrote jokes for the stand-up performance Live from the Sunset Strip and The Richard Prior Show. They maintained a friendship for many years.

Paul also wrote a few episodes of Sanford & Son.

As an actor, Paul is known for playing Sam Cooke in the 1978 film “The Buddy Holly Story”. He was introduced to a the millennial generation through his appearances on the Chappelle show segments including “Ask a Black Dude” and “Negrodamus”.
Fellow comedians are paying their respect to the Paul Mooney, including George Wallace and Dave Chappelle.
