RCSD Teachers Association Plan Rally Thursday, Over Paychecks & Other Issues

The Rochester Teachers Association is taking part in a rally on Thursday to address payroll discrepancies they say continue to impact hundreds of Rochester City School District employees. Poster painting events have been held this week to prepare for the rally. The district moved from PeopleSoft to Oracle at the start of July because it says the platform supports the district’s financial, human capital and technology operations. The district says a problem with the new software means some staff have not been receiving their paychecks, among other issues.
Four affected unions will gather in front of the Rochester City School District’s main office Thursday from 4-6 p.m., before the RCSD Board of Education’s monthly meeting. The teachers union president says the payroll issues need to be addressed as soon as possible. “The difficulties that this represents, not just for teachers, but to non-teaching employees and professionals, are really enormous. People are having problems keeping up with their mortgage payments, with their car payments, with balancing their checkbooks. So this really cannot go on forever,” said Adam Urbanski, president of the RTA. The city school superintendent said last week that he stands with the unions as the district works to fix the problem.
