RCSD Holds Community Action Initiative

Written by on November 8, 2021

Over this past weekend, Rochester City School District parents, staff, and students were invited by Superintendent Lesli Myers-Small to participate in a Community Action Initiative at Franklin High School. This community-held initiative was formed after a spike of recent violence among Rochester city schools. Members were invited to join in conversations on how to address those issues and create change.

In a statement, Myers-Small said: “Today, one of the challenges that we’re facing as a district, and we’re certainly not alone in this, that we are inviting the school community to have a conversation with us in our call to action…Our students were in remote learning, many of them at least at the secondary level were in remote learning since March of 2020. We certainly need to address the behaviors of our disruptive students, but putting them to remote I just don’t feel is a good option. We need to look to how we can create ways within the school to support those students.”
