RCSD Cheer Parents Upset About Decision To Cut Competitive Cheerleading

Years of practices, performances and competitions have become a source of pride for Rochester cheerleaders and their families. Now, parents fear those opportunities are being taken away. Families are demanding answers after Section V confirmed the Rochester City School District will cut funding for competitive cheerleading programs, leaving parents and community advocates calling for the decision to be reversed.

While sideline cheerleading teams will remain unaffected, parents say the loss of competitive opportunities could have a lasting impact on student-athletes who have dedicated years to the sport. Parents say they first learned of the funding cuts through a social media post earlier this week, leaving them questioning why the decision was made and what comes next for their children.
