RCSD Announces 4 Candidates for Superintendent

Written by on April 25, 2019

Yesterday, the RCSD announces there are 4 new candidates for superintendent of the RCSD. All black men. None from New York.

Let’s meet the candidates:

Terry Dade, assistant superintendent at Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia.

Devon Horton, chief of schools at Jefferson County Public Schools in the Louisville, Kentucky area.

Sito Narcisse, chief of schools for Metro Nashville Public Schools in Tennessee.

Eric Thomas, chief turnaround officer for the Georgia State Board of Education.

Three come from much larger districts while the forth is a school officer. One of these candidates will be replacing interim leader, Dan Lowengard, who has held the position since February when Superintendent Barbara Deane-Williams stepped down.

Please make sure to attend the two public forums to meet these candidates. Even though the final decision comes down the the school board, it is imperative as a community we stay involved to see who will be the best choice to lead our school district.

The first forum will be with Narcisse and Thomas starting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, and Dade and Horton starting at 12:30 p.m. May 5. Both forums will be held at the Freddie Thomas Learning Center, 625 Scio St.
