Queen Latifah and her Flavor Unit Entertainment partner, Shakim Compere, are set to produce a biopic exploring her life and career. This film marks the first project in a collaboration with Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment to create a series of biopics highlighting influential hip-hop artists. In a joint statement, Queen Latifah and Compere emphasized how hip-hop has shaped their lives and the importance of telling these foundational stories. Will Smith expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating that Queen Latifah’s inspiring journey makes her story the perfect starting point for the series.

Born Dana Elaine Owens, Queen Latifah began her career as a beatboxer for the hip-hop group Ladies Fresh and was an original member of the Flavor Unit, a collective of New York and New Jersey-based emcees and DJs. At 19, she released her debut album “All Hail the Queen” in 1989. She gained further acclaim starring in the popular Fox sitcom “Living Single” from 1993 to 1998. The upcoming biopic aims to showcase her significant contributions to music and culture.
