‘Purple Rain’ To Be Adapted Into a Musical

“Purple Rain” (the film) will be coming to Broadway. To mark the 40th anniversary of the film’s release and soundtrack album, the iconic movie featuring Prince will be transformed into a musical production.
The musical narrates the fictional journey of a rising rock artist navigating the vibrant Minneapolis club scene, tackling challenges within a turbulent home life, rivalry with another band, and a blossoming love story. Alongside the musical’s debut, a new book penned by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, draws from Albert Magnoli and William Blinn’s initial screenplay, adding depth to the story’s legacy.
