Last night, President elect Joe Biden held a ceremony at the Lincoln Center in Washington D.C. to remember those that we have lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Biden let the country know that one of the main goals of his administration would be to honor and remember the grief that Americans have had to endure.

During the ceremony, 400 candles lights were illuminated around the reflection pool to to commemorate the 400,000 Americans who have lost their lives since the pandemic began almost one year ago.

“It’s hard sometimes to remember, but that’s how we heal. It’s important to do that as a nation. For many months, we have grieved by ourselves. Tonight, we grieve and begin healing together.”

Vice President Kamala Harris followed, saying:

“Though we may be physically separated, we, the American people, are united in spirit and my abiding hope, my abiding prayer, is that we emerge from this ordeal with a new wisdom: to cherish simple moments, to imagine new possibilities and to open our hearts just a little bit more to one another,”
