Earlier this week, President Joe Biden revealed plans for an investment strategy designed to ensure all U.S. citizens have high-speed internet access by 2030. The initiative relies on the utilization of domestically produced cables.
The plan gets its financial backing from the bipartisan infrastructure law, which will allocate $42 billion nationwide to regions either devoid of internet service or suffering from slow connectivity.
During his visit to Genesee County, also on Monday, Senator Chuck Schumer announced the allocation of nearly $670 million from this plan to New York state. Schumer highlighted the importance of reliable broadband, stating the COVID-19 pandemic has shown how indispensable it has become.
Schumer stated: “Broadband is the 21st century’s essential utility. It’s needed universally – for children’s education, telemedicine services at local hospitals, individual small businesses, and for farmers to stay updated with crucial weather and agricultural reports.”
Biden further mentioned that the American Rescue Plan has already funded on kickstarted over 35,000 projects to establish internet connectivity via cable-laying operations.
