Possible Salmonella Outbreak in Ground Beef?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, there is an ongoing investigation into ground beef after it was linked to a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Dublin, which is said to be more serious and severe than other strains of the bacteria.

Currently, 10 people from six states have been infected, leading to eight related hospitalizations. There has been one related death reported.

At this time, the CDC has not identified the supplier of the potentially infected ground beef and they have not yet advised consumers not to eat it. Nor have they advised retailers not to sell the meat.

The CDC wants to remind consumers about the importance of not consuming raw or under cooked beef. Consumers are urged to cook beef until it reaches an internal temperature of 160° F and not wash their hands after handling raw meat.
