(MELANIE) –The 9th annual Roc the Peace Festival continued Saturday, July 21st, 2018 at Jones Square Park.
“I will always have it here,” said Founder of the Roc the Peace Fest, Sirena Cotton. There are plenty of moms here that loss their children and siblings that loss their siblings. They are just here having a real good time.”
On November 27, 2007, Sirena Cotton’s Christopher Jones was shot and killed. He was 16 years old. Each year she holds the Roc the Peace Fest on his birthday weekend to keep his memory alive. On Saturday, the community came together to take a stand against gun violence.
“This is all about victims of violence. A lot of families are touched and everyday is a struggle, said Cotton. The fact that we are celebrating his birthday and other victims of violence, I know he’s shining down.”
