Phase 2 of Coronavirus Re Opening Begins

Written by on May 30, 2020

Governor Andrew Cuomo has confirmed the Phase 2 re-opening procedure for five regions across New York. The Finger lakes, Mohawk Valley, Central New York, Southern Tier and North Country are now permitting certain nonessential businesses to re-open.
These include offices, real estate, in-store retail, vehicle sales, leases and rentals, commercial building management, hair salons and barber shops.
There was a bit of confusion, as the announcement came after county officials indicated a lack of clarity on what the procedure would be going forward.
Some businesses went ahead and re-opened Friday morning without Cuomo’s explicit orders. Most didn’t know it wasn’t allowed, but some were coerced by Republican leaders.
During his briefing Friday afternoon Cuomo clarified his instructions and declared that the five regions could to enter the next phase, after having experts review the most recent COVID-19 information.
“I feel confident that we can rely on this data and the five regions that have been in Phase 1 can now move to Phase 2 because their data has been reviewed and the experts say to us it’s safe to move forward,” Cuomo said.
The Capital and Western New York Region are set to move to Phase 2 sometime next week.
