Petition Demands Safer, Cheaper Parking for URMC Employees

Written by on August 16, 2025

Over 2,300 people have signed a petition calling for safer and more affordable parking options for employees at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). The movement gained traction after a Highland Hospital nurse was assaulted walking to her car. Megan Cooper, a URMC worker, launched the petition after years of parking frustrations. She pays $365 annually for an uncovered lot with minimal lighting, while closer lots cost up to $1,600. Though URMC offers free off-site parking with bus service, Cooper says it’s impractical for busy hospital shifts. URMC responded, stating parking rates are based on salary and support security investments.
