Perseid Meteor shower visible in Rochester

Written by on August 12, 2020

Last night was the peak viewing time for the Perseid meteor shower. But there’s another chance to see it tonight. The best time for it will be between midnight and 5 a.m. Some factors can’t be control like cloud cover, but here are some good tips for seeing meteors:

  • Get away from light pollution, aka out of the city, Webster park is a pretty good place for this, that isn’t too far out.
  • An open area, with an unobstructed view of a good portion of the sky is best.
  • Apparently looking North is a good place to start.
  • If under the right condition, there will be about 30 per hour, so one every few minutes, so you have to be patient as you watch the sky.

The link below includes a light pollution map that is pretty useful.
