Residents in Penfield have expressed concern over a strong gas odor in the area, which town officials say was caused by a drilling operation for a geothermal well on Pine Brook Circle.
The drilling struck a pocket of naturally occurring methane, releasing the odor.
While officials assure there is no public risk and the smell should dissipate within 24 to 72 hours, some residents report the stench is overwhelming.
This follows another recent incident in Penfield where a quarry blast sent debris onto public property.
That quarry is now under investigation and has been ordered to stop all blasting.
