The NYPD officer that put Eric Garner in a chokehold in 2014 is finally facing charges for causing Mr. Garner’s death.
The two charges officer Daniel Pantaleo faces are for use of a chokehold and restricting a mans breathing. Pantaleo has remained with the NYPD with no disciplinary action since the death of Eric Garner.
The case will be prosecuted be the Civilian Complaint Review Board which is in place to oversee the allegations and misconduct of the NYPD.
The hearings won’t begin until 2019 and the attorney for Pantaleo said him and his client are looking forward to being vindicated.
Back in 2014 officer Pantaleo was caught on video attempting to arrest Eric Garner for selling cigarettes illegally in Long Island by putting him in a chokehold from behind after tackling him. Garner said he couldn’t breathe and ultimately ended up dying in police custody.
