NYPD Detective Sparks Controversy After Appearing in Viral Raunchy Pole-Dancing Video

Written by on March 7, 2025

A detective in the NYPD’s special victims unit, Melissa Mercado, is attracting attention after appearing in a viral pole-dancing music video.

In the video for “Doin That” by rapper S-Quire, Mercado is seen dancing provocatively in minimal clothing.

Mercado is a seven-year veteran of the force, earning $144,000 a year, and was assigned to the Bronx special victims unit after joining in 2018.

Although she is not named in the video, sources confirmed it features her. The video has circulated among her colleagues.

Some officers believe her performance is her personal business since she is not wearing NYPD insignia and nothing in the video identifies her as a detective.

However, there are concerns about potential conflicts with department policies regarding off-duty employment.

This incident raises questions about the boundaries between personal conduct and professional responsibilities for law enforcement officers.
