NY State Testing Disrupted for Second Day by System Failures

Written by on April 9, 2025

State testing for New York students in grades 3–8 faced widespread delays due to back-to-back technical failures in the online testing system. The disruptions impacted at least four districts across the Capital Region, including Bethlehem, Amsterdam, and Fort Edward. The issues were attributed to the state’s testing vendor, the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). The New York State Education Department apologized, emphasized that only 10% of schools were affected, and extended the testing window to May 23. Despite assurances that students will have ample time to complete assessments, some districts, like Albany, have chosen to postpone testing until after spring break. NYSED pledged to hold NWEA accountable and stated that support will be available for any schools needing it.
