NY Lawmakers Push to Expand Bottle Deposit Program, Add More Drinks and Raise Payout

New York lawmakers are proposing an expansion to the state’s bottle deposit program. The bill would include containers for drinks like tea, coffee, juice, and sports drinks, and raise the deposit from five to six cents.

Supporters say it could remove 5.5 billion more containers from the waste stream and significantly cut CO2 emissions, while also saving state and local governments millions.
