Written by Site Hub on August 3, 2023
Nurses at Rochester General Hospital are prepared to strike today, a move that is creating widespread concern over the possible impact.
The recent round of negotiations between Rochester Regional Health and the Rochester Union of Nurses and Allied Professionals has recently concluded without significant progress. RRH has expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, leading to a planned nurses’ strike set to commence at 7:00 am.
With the looming strike led by the Rochester Union of Nurses and Allied Professionals (RUNAP), Rochester Regional Health has announced that they hired several hundred temporary nurses to fill the void.
According to estimates by RUNAP, the planned 48-hour strike will result in a $4 million expense for RRH. While Rochester Regional Health has chosen not to disclose the exact amount spent on hiring substitute nurses, they have acknowledged that the preparations for the strike are costing the health system millions of dollars.
The strike at RGH is set to end on Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m.
