NJ’s Milltown Mel the Groundhog Dies Before Big Day

While we can guess what’s in store for us based on this week’s forecast, we, unfortunately, will not be getting our groundhog’s prediction this year. Milltown Mel, a groundhog who has for years offered his weather predictions on Groundhog Day, has died just before his big day. According to Mel’s handlers, the Milltown Wranglers stated: “[Mel] recently crossed over the rainbow bridge…[Mel died] at a tough time of year, when most of his fellow groundhogs are hibernating…We will work hard on getting us a new weather prognosticator for next year.”
