Nivea Gets Emotional While Revealing Health Update Following Leukemia Diagnosis (VIDEO)

Nivea shared an emotional health update several months after revealing her leukemia diagnosis. The singer appeared on the ‘Tamron Hall’ show on Wednesday, October, 7, and she was brought to tears during the episode.

Nivea Reveals Health Update Following Leukemia Diagnosis

Grammy-nominated artist Nivea shared a health update during an appearance on the ‘Tamron Hall‘ show on Wednesday. The Shade Room reported in July that Nivea was diagnosed with a form of leukemia known as chronic myeloid leukemia, or CML. Chronic myeloid leukemia is a slow-moving blood cancer that starts in bone marrow cells, according to the American Cancer Society. Nivea is currently enrolled in a clinical trial and taking an FDA-approved targeted medication once daily.

She appeared on the show with her oncologist, Dr. Colin Vale of Emory Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta, Georgia. Vale didn’t name the medication being used, but he said that clinical trials have shown success. At that point, Hall revealed that Nivea is in remission, and she became emotional.

“I should point out the amazing news here is that Nivea’s cancer is now in remission,” said Hall.

The audience jumped to their feet and began to applaud and cheer, and Nivea began to cry. She also hugged Hall after she passed her a tissue, Nivea hugged Vale as well.

“Oh my lamb,” said Nivea. “I did not want to cry…. I’m very grateful. Thank you so much.”

Nivea went on to describe how she feels on a day-to-day basis as the medication affects her body. She takes a two-pill dose one time daily.

“I couldn’t believe it, because this happened to me this year — only a few months ago,” she said of the diagnosis and subsequent remission. “And doctor, you know, even though explaining to me the success rate of the drug, we still, you know, didn’t know. We have to monitor how, you know, everybody’s different how your body reacts to the medications. You know, some days I miss, sometimes I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to kill myself if I don’t take the medicine.’ It’s going to, you know, I thought that was just, you know, it was, it’s been an adjustment, like the symptoms. I’m tired a lot. Um, I have other issues, bleeding. I found out I have um fibroids. It’s a long little list, but I’m still on the better side than most. I’m not complaining. I’m not complaining at all.”

Nivea Also Spoke About Learning Of Her Diagnosis

Nivea also shared with Hall how she first learned that she had leukemia. After Hall asked Nivea how she described the pain when she first noticed something was wrong, the ‘Don’t Mess With My Man‘ singer said that she felt a hard knot on her side.

“Um, like a knot in my side,” she replied. “Just excruciating and just really hard…. So, I had a a performance on Valentine’s Day…. And it was that next following Monday, and I woke up, and I was like, ‘Oh my god.’…. I honestly thought I was constipated.”

Nivea went on to say that she called her 21-year-old daughter, Navy Talia Nash. She told her daughter she wasn’t feeling well, and Navy took her to the ER. She was later diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia.
