NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins: US Could See 1 Million COVID Cases per Day

Written by on December 20, 2021

After dedicating 12 years serving as the director of the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Francis Collins has retired this weekend. However, before Dr. Collins says his goodbyes, he still has concerns about the US facing the omicron variant. He warns us that if Americans don’t take COVID-19 seriously, the country could see 1 million daily infections. Dr. Collins continues by stating: “We cannot afford to let down our guard…I know people are tired of this.”I’m tired of it too, believe me. But the virus is not tired of us. It’s having a great old time changing its shape every couple of months, coming up with new variants, and figuring out ways to be even more contagious.”
