New York State Police St. Patrick’s Day Crackdown

Written by on March 24, 2025

New York State Police issued over 11,500 tickets during their St. Patrick’s Day weekend enforcement campaign. The crackdown included sobriety checkpoints, underage drinking enforcement, and increased patrols targeting speeding, distracted driving, and aggressive behavior. A total of 239 people were arrested for DWI, and officers investigated 563 crashes, none of which were fatal. In the Capital Region alone, 962 tickets were issued, with 31 DWI arrests and hundreds of citations for speeding and other violations. In the North Country, 712 tickets were issued, including 13 for DWI. Authorities say the initiative aimed to reduce dangerous driving behaviors during a high-risk holiday period. The effort reflects a broader commitment to traffic safety and underage drinking prevention across the state. Law enforcement agencies say they’ll continue to run similar campaigns during future holidays.
