New York State Assembly Holds Emergency Meeting on Gov. Cuomo

After yesterday’s devastating report by the New York Attorney General’s Office into allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the New York State Assembly held an emergency meeting. Speaker Carl Heastie stated that lawmakers “will move expeditiously and look to conclude our impeachment investigation as quickly as possible.” Heastie continued by stating that “it is abundantly clear to me that the Governor has lost the confidence of the Assembly Democratic majority and that he can no longer remain in office.”
While the Judiciary Committee is expected to meet Monday, President Biden thinks that Gov. Cuomo should step down now. “I think he should resign. I understand the state legislature may decide to impeach. I don’t know that for a fact.”
