New York in State of Emergency as Remnants of Hurricane Ida Hit Hudson Valley

Written by on September 2, 2021

Early this morning, Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency as the remnants of Hurricane Ida hit with massive rainfall on much of the Northeast, leading to flooding across wide swaths of New York City and the Hudson Valley.

Yesterday at around 9:30 pm, the National Weather Service’s New York City office issued its first-ever flash-flood emergency for much of the city and Westchester County as the rainfall led to floodwaters overtaking some roads and subway stations. According to the National Weather Service, a tornado watch was in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday for the city, Long Island, Westchester County, and Rockland County.

Governor Kathy Hochul stated: “I encourage New Yorkers in these affected areas to please pay attention to local weather reports, stay off the roads and avoid all unnecessary travel during this time.”
