Written by on March 11, 2025

The New York State Attorney General has filed a lawsuit against National General and Allstate Insurance Company for failing to safeguard New Yorkers’ personal information from cyberattacks.

Over 165,000 New Yorkers were reportedly affected by attacks on the companies in 2020 and 2021.

Between August and November 2020, attackers targeted National General’s online quoting websites, which exposed users’ full driver’s license numbers due to insufficient security measures.

This breach compromised the driver’s license numbers of nearly 12,000 individuals, including over 9,100 New Yorkers, according to the lawsuit.
