Written by on October 8, 2026

Tyler Perry’s Doing Life arrived on the streaming service Oct. 2, and by Oct. 5, it already climbed to No. 1 on Netflix’s U.S. movie chart. The film is currently ahead of The Widower: ‘Til Death Do Us Part, The Breadwinner, UNABOMBER, and several other popular titles. The early streaming success comes as the movie draws attention for its story of second chances, redemption, and an unexpected relationship. Written and directed by Tyler Perry, Doing Life follows Anika, a single mother and former prison officer, who forms an unlikely connection with Carousel, a reformed ex-convict. Carousel once saved Anika during a violent prison riot. After leaving prison, he is trying to rebuild his life while Anika is dealing with her own struggles. Their relationship develops through a series of circumstances that give both characters a chance at a fresh start. Naomi Baker stars as Anika, with Jay Reeves playing Carousel. The cast also includes Tamberla Perry, Karen Obilom, Jasmine Sargent, and Danielle Moné Truitt. Perry wrote, directed, and produced the film, which runs for about 1 hour and 48 minutes.
