New Name Change for the Mamba Sports Foundation

Vanessa Bryant announced that the Mamba Sports Foundation will undergo a name change to the Mamba & Mambacita Foundation. The Foundation, which was previously named for Kobe Bryant’s basketball nickname, Black Mamba, will now also honor Gianna Maria-Onore Bryant (affectionately called Gigi). The name change is especially fitting because the Foundation’s mission is to impact young people in a positive way through sports by helping to provide sports opportunities for them.
In her February 13 announcement on Instagram, Vanessa said: “Because there is no #24 without #2, we have updated the Mamba Sports Foundation to now be called the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation. Our mission remains the same – and stronger than ever – to provide opportunities to young people through sports. Thank you all for the outpouring of support and your kind donations to date as we carry forth Kobe and Gigi’s legacy. We hope to empower young athletes in a world they left us all to help shape.”
The numbers 24 and 2 refer to the jersey numbers worn by Kobe (#24) and Gigi (#2). In her own right, Gigi was also a great basketball player like her dad, and Kobe couldn’t have been prouder of her. Now they will both share equal billing in the name of their Foundation.
