New Election Laws In New York State

Heads up if you vote or are thinking about becoming a voter in New York! There are two new election laws that will effect election procedures going forward. The first one will let people register to vote closer to Election Day.
So now you will be able to register to vote up to 10 days before an election instead of 25 days before an election. This will make registering to vote before an election easier for people who want to vote. The Monroe County BOE said it will make work harder for them because they will have less time to process the information.
The second law you will see on the actual ballot. It will clarify how candidates appear on the ballot so candidates cannot be on the ballot as “independent” or “independence” with an “I” by their name.
The reason for that is the Independence Party is disaffiliated in New York State. The party failed to secure the votes in 2020.
