Officials are speculating that the deal brokered with the pharmaceutical companies Johnson & Johnson and Merck will advance the overall vaccine distribution timeline by a couple of months.
President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that he thinks that every willing adult in the US could be vaccinated as soon as April. There should be around 400 million doses coming from BioNTech, which should be enough to vaccinate 200 million people, and then another 100 million doses of the one shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
That should hypothetically cover the 255 million adults that live in the US.Melissa McPheeters, a professor of health policy and biomedical informatics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center gave her thoughts on the subject, saying:
“(This) is incredibly exciting and gives me a lot of hope. We are within view of turning a corner from a scarcity mindset.”
