More Drives Resign During Bus Shortage for RCSD

With the school year coming to a start, it was no secret that there is a bus driver shortage. This caused delays in the school year as the majority of the students from the Rochester City School District depend on bus transportation. Superintendent Dr. Lesli Myers-Small said that a total of nine additional drivers resigned from Monroe Transportation, Ontario Bus Service, and First Student. According to Myers-Smalls this now leaves the district with 36 unassigned routes and will impact an additional 174 students with disabilities.
School board commissioner Beatriz Lebron stated: “We have hundreds of families who don’t know where we stand and don’t know what’s going to happen Thursday, Friday, Monday. We are going to end up shifting more general education students and potentially even kids as young as five to be walking or telling five-year-olds to go virtual until we figure out their transportation. It’s just simply unacceptable.”
