Monroe County Makes Absentee Ballots History For Upcoming Elections
Written by Tariq on October 9, 2020
The most absentee ballots in Monroe County history – 100,000 – have been submitted. Jackie Ortiz, the Democratic commissioner at the Monroe County Board of Elections says, more than any other time in history, absentee ballots will play a major role in deciding races. Her staff has been preparing for months to make sure votes are counted. “You really don’t want to fall into false narrative that things are going awry with the process. They’re certainly not. It is a safe process. You will receive your ballot,” she said.
Lisa Nicholay, the Republican commissioner at the Monroe County Board of Elections, agrees. She says if you are concerned, there are options available. “If people are concerned about getting here in a timely fashion, I would say make sure you mail it as soon as possible,” she said. “The other option is bring it right here to the board. We have a drop box.”
Friday (10/09) is the deadline to register to vote. Early voting starts on Oct. 24. For a list of early voting locations head to WDKX.com
