Monroe County Legislature Approves Redistricting

Written by on December 18, 2021

Yesterday, the Monroe County legislature approved an amended set of district maps in a 20 to 9 vote. While this vote occurred, some democrats argued the vote was illegal and cited legislative rules as well as gerrymandering. Others also argued the amendments were not made available to the individual legislatures before the vote.

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello also expressed his frustration and concern, stating that the process was not transparent, did not allow for meaningful public input, and did not provide adequate information to the public concerning the proposed new districts. According to Bello, the legislature majority ignored legal and public concerns and passed their redistricting local law. They will review the redistricting in January 2022.
