Monroe County Judge Meredith Anne Vacca has been recommended by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to serve on the Federal Court for the Western District of New York. If confirmed, Vacca will make history as the first woman of color and the first Asian-American on the WDNY bench. Vacca’s judicial career began in Monroe County in 2007 as an Assistant District Attorney, where she focused on Domestic Violence and Child Abuse cases. She later ascended to roles as a Monroe County Judge and an Acting State Supreme Court Judge, and in 2020, she was elected to oversee criminal felony cases in Monroe County Court. Schumer highlighted Vacca’s qualifications, her deep roots in the Rochester area, and her educational background from the University of Buffalo, emphasizing her potential to bring significant legal expertise, integrity, and diversity to the Federal bench.
