Monroe County is forming a Traffic Safety Team to address public safety concerns, particularly focusing on traffic violations. Local leaders discussed this initiative at the Greece Central School District, emphasizing the county’s new stop-arm bus camera program. Schools such as BOCES 1, Hilton, East Irondequoit, and Webster have begun using this technology, with Greece Central Schools implementing it a few months ago. Monroe County Executive Adam Bello revealed that in just 12 weeks, over 1,100 violations were recorded in Greece alone, averaging about 100 motorists per week passing stopped school buses, thereby endangering children. The new Traffic Safety Team will include local non-profits, faith-based organizations, businesses, and community members to enhance traffic safety efforts in the county.
