Greece Police are using new license plate reader cameras to catch suspected car thieves, leading to the recent arrest of three individuals found in a stolen Kia at a gas station on West Ridge Road.
One suspect attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.
Since October, over 50 intersections in Greece have been equipped with the cameras.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office plans to install more than 150 additional cameras at intersections county-wide.
Despite some privacy concerns, the Monroe County Legislature recently approved the expansion, funded by a state technology grant.
