Misty Copeland, George C. Wolfe and Jeffrey Wright Named Special Honorees at AAFCA Awards

At the 15th annual AAFCA Awards on February 21 at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, notable figures from the arts will be honored for their contributions. Ballet dancer turned producer Misty Copeland, renowned director, writer, and producer George C. Wolfe, and Academy Award nominee Jeffrey Wright will receive special accolades. Copeland will be awarded the Innovator Award for her groundbreaking role as the first Black woman principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre and her subsequent ventures in philanthropy and production. Wolfe will receive the Legacy Award for his influential work in theater and film, notably directing “Rustin.” Wright will be honored with the Legend Award for his distinguished career in acting, including his recent Oscar nomination for “American Fiction.” The event, hosted by comedian Roy Wood Jr., will also celebrate the winners of this year’s top films and performances, highlighting the achievements of artists like Ava DuVernay, Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and others in various categories.
