The City of Rochester plans to honor Minister Franklin D Florence Civil Rights Heritage Park which will be part of Baden Park in northeast Rochester. About two dozen people met Thursday for the first of six public meetings and with markers, pens, and paper in hand, they went to work shaping the future of the park. “Really, truly, it’s going to be about community stories. Memories people have. People here have been involved in the movement or were involved knew Minister Florence, knew other leaders in the movement,” City of Rochester Director of Programs and Park Stewardship Sara Scott said. Rev Minister Florence is known as “fearless fighter for change.” The Civil Rights leader passed away in 2023. In the wake of the 1964 riots, he founded the “Fight-On” — the nation’s first black run community development corporation. The next meeting for the park will be held towards the end of summer.
