The acting commissioner of the Social Security Administration, Michelle King, has resigned after more than 30 years of service, reportedly due to requests from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for access to sensitive Social Security recipient information.
King’s departure was prompted by her refusal to grant access to DOGE staff. Following her resignation, Leland Dudek, an SSA employee, has been appointed as the new acting commissioner.
King’s exit is part of a trend of high-ranking officials leaving the agency over concerns about potential unlawful access to private taxpayer data by DOGE staff.
