Miami Honors Hip-Hop Icons With Street Renamings and Murals

Written by on March 26, 2025

Miami-Dade County is recognizing the cultural legacy of its homegrown hip-hop artists by renaming streets in Liberty City after music icons like Rick Ross, Trina, Trick Daddy, and City Girls. Led by Commissioner Keon Hardemon, the initiative also includes plans for murals and aims to promote both cultural pride and economic revitalization in the historically Black neighborhood. Each street will reflect the titles of hit songs or phrases tied to these artists, such as “Born N Raised Street” and “Still Da Baddest Street.” To qualify, artists needed to meet criteria like Billboard chart success, community impact, and cultural influence. Family members of the honorees expressed deep appreciation, saying the move inspires future generations and celebrates resilience. The project shines a light on the rich history of Liberty City and its importance in shaping Miami’s distinct sound, while cementing the city’s role in hip-hop’s broader legacy.
