Back in mid August, Randall Jackson took his own life when he cut the gas line in his house and intentionally blew it up. This occurred after he received notice that the house was being sold as a foreclosure.

Unfortunately, what Jackson didn’t know before he tragically took his life was that the foreclosure was set to pay out nearly $40,000 to the homeowner. When the home was sold at a foreclosure auction for $80,000, the bank was only allowed to take the lien amount of about $44,000, meaning Jackson was entitled to the other $36,000.

Randall Jackson’s sister, Caroline Jackson, told News10NBC Chief Investigative Reporter Berkeley Brean that her brother would still be alive today if he had known this information. According to her, the foreclosure notice didn’t specify that the money would go to Jackson, just to the county.

When asked why the foreclosure notice didn’t specify how the money would be allocated, the Housing Council issued the following statement, “Our goal is to keep clients from going into foreclosure. The vast majority of the homeowners that we see are upside down on their mortgages, so they would not be in this situation.”

In honor of Randall Jackson’s death, the purchaser of the foreclosed home, Salafia Real Estate Team, decided to donate the now null and void down payment they put on the home to four local organizations who help families when they lose their homes.

“We hope we have honored the loss of Randal Jackson today,” said Sal Salafia. A check for $2,500 in the name of Randall Jackson was given to Lollypop Farm, Open Door Mission, Center for Youth and Goodwill of the Finger Lakes.
