Man arrested after attempting to drive off in stolen vehicle with officer inside

A 38-year-old man from Irondequoit was arrested after attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle with a Rochester Police officer partially inside. The incident occurred near Dewey Avenue and Glendale Street when an officer on patrol spotted the stolen vehicle parked at the intersection.
As the officer approached, the suspect jumped into the driver’s seat and began driving while the officer attempted to turn off the vehicle. Despite the officer’s efforts, the vehicle was driven approximately 75 feet before the officer successfully stopped it. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The man now faces charges of Assault on a Police Officer (2nd degree), Reckless Endangerment (1st degree), and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. A 32-year-old woman, riding as a passenger, was also arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and had outstanding warrants. Police continue to investigate the incident.
