Lizzo to Star as Sister Rosetta Tharpe in Upcoming Biopic

Lizzo will portray trailblazing guitarist and gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe in a new biopic from Amazon MGM Studios. Titled Rosetta, the film will explore Tharpe’s influence on rock music and her struggles as a queer Black woman in mid-century America. Lizzo, who is also a producer, has long advocated for the story to be told. “This is my baby, my passion,” she wrote on Instagram. The role marks a significant moment in both Lizzo’s comeback and Tharpe’s long-overdue spotlight.
