After Lil Yachty dropped his new music video for “Oprah’s Bank Account,” fans gave him mixed reviews… for what he was wearing in the video. In a nine-minute segment of the video, Yachty is seen wearing a dress and wig as “Boprah,” his impersonation of Oprah as a talk-show host.

Social media erupted with reactions, ranging from those who were entertained and amused to those who said that Yachty was only trying to boost his sales, and he was willing to crossdress to make that happen. Some viewers even went down the path of making homophobic slurs, refusing to watch the entire video after they saw how Yachty was dressed.

Twitter postings ranged from “Seeing Lil Yachty dressed as Oprah is a lot,” to “That Lil Yachty Oprah video made me uncomfortable for some reason,” and “You don’t need to wear no dresses or wigs to sell… you created a lane… how I’m supposed to take this.”

But Yachty wasn’t having any of that. Secure in his self-identity, he posted his own thoughts on Twitter: “It’s just supposed to be entertaining… it ain’t even that deep.” And he suggested the reason for all the negative comments suggesting that he let the Black community down was that too many black men are “so in denial with y’all masculinity.”
